Basic nuclear physics (nuclear reactions)

  • 1. Radiation Hazards Control Section, Radiation Safety Systems Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

The process by which a nucleus is converted or transmuted to another by rearrangement of nucleons inside is called nuclear reactions. Nuclear reactions can be analysed quantitatively in terms of masses and energies of nuclei and particles involved. Energy could be absorbed or released during a nuclear reaction. If the energy is absorbed in a nuclear reaction it is called endoergic reaction and if energy is released it is exoergic reaction
