Yields and isomer ratio in A = 134 chain for the spontaneous fission on 252Cf

  • 1. Middle East Technical Univ., Ankara (Turkey)

Description

Yields of members of the A = 134 mass-chain in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf have been determined using radiochemical techniques and γ-ray spectroscopy. The cumulative yield of 42 min 134Te has been found to be 3.1 +- 0.4% and its fractional cumulative yield 0.74 +- 0.07. The cumulative yield of 134I isomers was determined as 3.7 +- 0.5%, their total independent yield as 1.1 +- 0.3% and their total fractional independent yield as 0.26 +- 0.7. The independent yield of 3.8 min sup(134m)I was determined to be 0.69 +- 0.05% and that of 53 min sup(134g)I 0.41 +- 0.05%. The independent yield isomer ratio Ysub(m)sup(i)/Ysub(g)sup(i) was found to be 1.7 +- 0.3. The most probable charge of the A = 134 mass-chain based on the experimental results comes out at Zsub(p) = 52.38 +- 0.16 in good agreement with the ECD hypothesis prediction. (author)
