Production of beryllium oxide of nuclear purity from beryl

Description
Production of beryllium oxide from beryl by the fluoride process was optimized in this study. Optimum results were obtained using a mixture of sodium hexafluorsilicate and sodium hexafluorferrate as flux and calcinating at 7400C for 2 hours. The beryllium concentrate produced was further purified by crystallization as beryllium sulfate to obtain nuclear grade beryllium oxide (Author)

Estuda-se a obtencao do oxido de berilio a partir do minerio berilo atraves do processo fluoreto. Mostram-se os resultados obtidos usando-se uma mistura de hexafluorsilicato de sodio e hexafluorferrato de sodio calcinados a temperatura de 7400C durante 2 horas. Avalia-se o concentrado obtido que para ser usado na industria nuclear, requer purificacao posterior. O processo de cristalizacao do sulfato de berilio para esta finalidade mostrou ser eficaz.
