Incomplete fusion and preequilibrium emission in the reactions 40Ar + 45Sc, 40Ar + 24Mg, 40Ar + 13C at 27.5 MeV by nucleon
Description
The evaporation residues were detected by means of a heavy ion time of flight system. As an attempt to examine in detail incomplete fusion for medium and light mass systems we have studied the reactions with experimental conditions allowing a complete separation and identification of the final products. We have analysed the velocity of the evaporation residues. The preequilibrium particles appear to be governed by two different regimes. The results show clearly that various compound nuclei are formed in the incomplete fusion process. The 40Ar + 13C reaction appears to be a special case. In the 40Ar+24Mg reaction, the study of preequilibrium particles in coincidence with evaporation residues confirms the results suggested for the heavy fragments
Abstract (French)
Les fragments lourds issus de la reaction sont detectes avec une base de temps de vol. L'identification et la separation en masse de tous ces fragments permet une selection des collisions centrales pour les trois reactions et l'etude du mecanisme de fusion incomplete pour chaque masse de residus d'evaporation. La fusion incomplete est analysee grace aux rapports des vitesses des residus d'evaporation et de la vitesse du centre de masse de la reaction. Une analyse theorique de ces rapports met en evidence differents regimes d'emission de preequilibre. La fusion incomplete du projectile et de la cible implique la formation d'une variete de noyaux composes dans chacun des trois systemes etudies. Cependant, les resultats experimentaux suggerent une interpretation differente du mecanisme de fusion incomplete pour les reactions 40Ar + 45Sc et 40Ar + 24Mg, d'une part, et la reaction 40Ar + 13C d'autre part. Pour le systeme 40Ar + 24Mg, des mesures de coincidences entre les residus d'evaporation et les particules legeres chargees ont ete effectuees avec un ensemble de scintillateurs ICs.
