Gamma-ray radiation hardened properties of single mode fibers
- 1. Osaka Prefectural Univ., Sakai (Japan)
Description
Gamma-ray induced losses of pure silica core and GeO2-added core single mode optical fibers (Si-SMF and Ge-SMF) at 1.30 and 1.55 μm were investigated. It was found that the induced loss of Si-SMF fibers exposed to γ-rays at a low dose rate was proportional to the 0.54 power of total dose from the results of a low dose rate irradiation test for 3 years, and the induced losses at 1.30 and 1.55 μm for 40 years ageing at 1 R/hr were estimated to be 1.8 and 2.2 dB/km, respectively.
