Charm semileptonic decays from FOCUS/E687: A survey of previous E687 results, and expectations from the FOCUS data

Description

The Fermilab Photoproduction Experiment E831 (FOCUS) will reconstruct over 1 million decays containing a charm quark. This yield is approximately 15 times the number of charm decays reconstructed in Experiment E687, the previous instance of the FOCUS spectrometer. From 23% of the total sample available for analyses, we demonstrate that for semileptonic analyses, the FOCUS collaboration can expect 30 - 40 times the events used in E687 semileptonic analyses. We review the E687 semileptonic results and make predictions for the physics from the FOCUS sample. copyright 1999 American Institute of Physics
