cw far-infrared laser scattering from a laboratory plasma

Description
The first far-infrared laser (lambda0=1.22 and 0.447 mm) scattering experiment in a laboratory plasma is described. cw laser radiation is scattered at large angles (0 0--20 0) from ion acoustic waves launched in a low-density (n/sub e/ approx. =1010 cm-3) plasma thereby allowing detailed comparison with Langmuir probe data. Measurement of the wave-number resolution and studies of both linear and nonlinear ion waves are presented. Future application areas are briefly described
