Production of mecanical vibrations of speciment by mass O.1-1 kg at a speed of 100-200 m/s
Description
The possibility is considered of obtaining an oscillatory motion of a sample (mass approximately 0.1-1 kg, velocity approximately 100-200 m/sec, amplitude approximately 0.5-1 m) with a view to performing experiments for identifying neutron S-resonances by the Doppler shift. The above oscillatory motion is shown to be obtainable in a filled gas cylinder, wherein oscillations are maintained with the aid of thermal energy. The test sample oscillated in a cylinder, both ends of which are supplied with chambers incorporating heating elements. A chamber with cooling elements is installed in the middle section of the cylinder. The work of the mechanism is described with regard to both qualitative and quantitative factors. A model with a helium filler has been used to obtain a sample velocity of approximately 30 m/sec, the sample mass and oscillation amplitude being 700 g and 17 cm respectively
