Description
The accurate information provided by computer tomography about existence, shape, and localization of intracranial neoplasms in an early phase and in inaccessible regions have improved the diagnostics greatly, so that these lie far ahead of the therapeutic possibilities for brain tumors. To reduce this wide margin we have developed a new targeting device which makes a stereotactic approach to central lesions under sight-control by computed tomography within the computed tomography-scanner possible. With the help of this simple device we are now able to perform stereotactic procedures for tumor biopsy guided by computed tomography, needling and drainage of abscesses and cysts, and finally for the implantation of radioactive material for the interstitial radiotherapy of inoperable cysts and tumors. Abstract (German)
Die Domaene der Computer-Tomographie ist es, ueber das Vorhandensein, die Beschaffenheit und die Lagebeziehungen einer intrakraniellen Geschwulst zu informieren; ihre artdiagnostischen Parameter sind dagegen weniger zuverlaessig. Mit diesen genauen topographischen Erkenntnissen ueber Hirngeschwuelste in einer noch fruehen Phase und an operativ nicht zugaenglichen Regionen war die Diagnostik der Therapie vorausgeeilt. Mit Hilfe eines neuartigen Zielgeraets, das unter computer-tomographischer Sichtkontrolle einen stereotaktischen Zugang zu den genannten Prozessen schafft, wird dieser Vorsprung wieder verkuerzt. Als einfaches Zusatzgeraet zur Computer-Tomographie ermoeglicht es nicht nur die bioptische Sicherung der Artdiagnose intrakranieller Raumforderungen, sondern gleichzeitig die therapeutische Beeinflussung dieser Prozesse, sei es durch die Punktion und Drainage von Abszessen oder Zysten oder durch die Implantation radioaktiver Substanzen zur interstitiellen Strahlenbehandlung inoperabler Geschwuelste.
