Installation and commissioning of AKE-02R system (neutron flux on-line calibration) at Bohunice NPP

  • 1. Division of NPP operation preparation, VUJE Inc., Trnava (Slovakia)

Description

Replacement of ex-core neutron flux measurement system AKNT-2 at Bohunice NPP was finished at Unit 3 in 2007 and at Unit 4 in 2008. The previous system was replaced by new system AKNT-17R. Neutron power on-line calibration system AKE-02R was installed at Unit 3 in the last year 2008. AKE-02R was working in open-loop till to end of fuel cycle. AKE-02R system was also installed at Unit 4 during outage in 2009 (July 2009). The purpose of AKE-02R system is to increase ex-core neutron flux measurement accuracy. Ex-core neutron flux measurement is strongly dependent on control rods group 6 position (radial and axial power distribution in the core) and coolant inlet temperature. AKE-02R system eliminates these dependencies by using correction factors, determined on the basis of real control rods position, real coolant inlet temperature and real burn-up. In this paper brief description of AKNT-17R system and AKE-02R system is presented. Step by step is explained the whole process of AKE-02R commissioning at Unit 3. Presented are all performed experiments and the results of the experiments during power commissioning in 2008 (coolant inlet temperature change, control rod group 6 position change, etc.) and during whole actual fuel cycle up to now. Some results from commissioning at Unit 4 that was performed last month are also presented. (Authors)
