Differential cross sections for 16O(γ,π+)16N and 10B(γ,π+)10Be in the Δ(1236) region

Description
The first (γ,π) experiment to discrete final states in the Δ(1236) region is reported. Differential cross sections for 10B(γ,π+)10Be and 16O(γ,π+)16N have been measured at 900 laboratory angle for 80- to 200-MeV kinetic energy pions. The contributions from the ground and first excited states in 10Be were observed separately, while in 16N the sum of the four lowest-lying states was observed. The data are found to be in good agreement with DWIA calculations for 10B; one calculation agrees for 16O, while another is a factor of two low. 2 figures
