Process for preparing polyfluorocyclobutylsilanes

Description

A process for the one step synthesis of polyfluorocyclobutylsilanes (C) from polyfluorocyclobutene (A) and silane (B) by means of gamma radiation is provided. C F2-CX=CY-C F2 (X and Y are H, Cl or F) (A) HSiClsub(3-n)(CH3)sub(n) (n=0-2) (B) C F2-CXSiClsub(3-n)(CH3)sub(n)-CHY-C F2 ( : closed ring) (C). (C) readily undergoes hydrolysis to give a cyclobutyl-containing polysiloxane. In one example, a mixture of 1-Cl-3, 3,4,4-tetrafluorocyclobutene (15.0g) and trichlorosilane (25.0g) was irradiated with gamma rays (dose rate 3.4 x 104 r/h, total dose 27 Mr) at room temperature. Distillation under reduced pressure gave the following products: (yield %, bp 0C, nsub( d)20) 2,2,3,3-tetrafluorocyclobutyltrichlorosilane (12.7, 130, 1.4002); 2,2,3,3-tetrafluoro-4-chlorocyclobutyltrichlorosilane (trans) (37.3, 150, 1.4118); ibid. (cis) (46.0, 163, 1.4238). (Kaichi, S.)
