Microstructure of the pellet of the K23-M04 fuel rod discharged from Ulchin 2 nuclear power plant

Description
The study measured the microstructure of the UO2 pellets of the K23-M04 fuel rod discharged from Ulchin 2 reactor using a optical and a scanning electron microscopy. The pellet specimen were extracted at the local burnup of 64 and 66 GWd/MTU. The pellet density, the pore distribution, the shape factor, the grain size, and the rim structure were measured and analyzed. The analysis results showed the density of 93.7 and 92.9 %, the pore size of 1.3 and 1.4 μm, and the grain size of 8.59∼10.47 and 8.95∼12.66 μm. The bubble concentration within the pellet region below radius of 2.4 mm and the rim structure appeared at 66 GWd/MTU
