Hydrogeological Site Characterization of Goseong Area

Description

The topology, stratigraphy, geological structures and hydrogeological characteristics of the site should be considered at siting of the radioactive waste repository. Korea peninsula experienced various geological events, which resulted in very rough topology and complex lithology, and it is difficult to characterize the geological structures and thus the hydrogeological properties in a give site. Moreover, the fact that about 70% of bedrocks are crystalline rocks makes worse. To consider the geologic conditions for disposal of radioactive waste, Goseong area was selected as a representative of the Youngdong-type geologic condition, and it was characterized in the aspects of geology, structural geology, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry and rock mechanics
