Cylindrical multiwire two-coordinate chamber operating in self-quenching streamer mode utilizing a polyurethane foam pipe support

Description

A cylindrical multiwire 2-coordinate chamber operating in the self-quenching streamer mode has been constructed, utilizing a polyurethane foam pipe support, for detecting recoil particles in experiments at IHEP. The polyurethane foam pipe is coated with an epoxy compound ≤0.5 mm. The inductive electrode consists of a set of wire rings 0.25 mm in diameter embedded in circular grooves, cut around the polyurethane foam pipe, and soldered to a metal-clad fiberglass plate. The anode and carthode wires, 0.05 mm and 0.1 mm in diameter respectively, are mounted on fiberglass rings. The amount of substance in the path of particles is ≤0.2 g/cm2. The chamber was tested with radioactive source, as well as in the accelerator beam, and operated for data accumulation during runs of the experiment on radiative scattering of negative pions and kaons on protons, in which a hydrogen target was utilized.
