Absorption studies using hydrous titanium oxide

Description
The potential of inorganic ion exchangers for use in the separation of environmentally important metal ions from ground water systems has been recognized for some time. Unfortunately, since these materials have been classically prepared by precipitation methods, drawbacks such as slow kinetics, nonreproducibility, and poor mechanical stability have kept inorganic ion exchangers from being widely applied in this field. This paper describes the absorption characteristics of hydrous titanium oxide microspheres prepared by a sol-gel technique. The application of these microspheres to the absorption of UO2++ from TCLP landfill type water and synthetic ground water has been investigated. The results of these experiments and absorption studies under standard laboratory conditions will be presented
