Interference effects in the differential ionization cross section of H2 by H+ impact

Description

Full text: The interference effects in the ejected electron spectra occur due to the two-center character of the hydrogen molecule. In the last few years much interest has been given to this phenomenon in the ionization of the molecule by fast charged particles. There have been published experimental data with Kr ion projectiles [1, 2] and H+ projectile [3]. Several theoretical investigations data have been performed [4,5,6]. Our theoretical analysis [4] is based on an impact parameter model. Using the first-order perturbation theory we have shown that the σ(H2)/2σ(H) cross section ratio oscillations depend on the ejection angle of the electron. This present work is focused on the interference effect which occurs in the ionization of H2 molecule by H+ impact. We have made the calculations for 1 MeV, 3 MeV and 5 MeV projectile energy, and studied the interference effect for different electron ejection angles. Because of the lower velocity of the projectile relative to the previously studied case [4] the frequency of the oscillations is changed. Our calculation confirm also for this projectile the experimental data
