Emergency dumping of large hydrocarbon oil inventories

This summary report addresses the feasibility and potential benefits of emergency dumping of large hydrocarbon oil inventories from offshore installations. The study responds to recommendation 45i of the Public Inquiry into the Piper Alpha disaster(1) and its objective is to provide guidance, direction and a methodology for emergency dumping, using as an illustration Amoco's Montrose Alpha platform.
