Temperature dependence of ac loss in type-II superconductors

  • 1. Institut de Recherche de l'Hydro-Quebec, C. P. 1000, Varennes, Quebec, Canada

Description

Superconducting ac losses have been measured between 4 and 8.5 K for two single−filament NbTi wires and one multifilamentary Nb3Sn wire carrying ac current. The results demonstrate that the temperature dependence of the critical current density is the predominant factor for the NbTi samples. A temperature−dependent screening current and critical current are needed to explain the Nb3Sn behavior.
