Production of 2 and 3 charged isotopes in α+α collissions at 218MeV

Description

The differential cross-section for production of 2 and 3 charged ions in α + α collisions at 218 MeV, has been measured on the α particle beam of the synchrocyclotron of ORSAY (IPN). The value of the total cross-section for production of 23He ions is 29 +- 4 mb. This value is characteristic of the great contributions of α + α collisions in the Galactic cosmic rays propagation and its interaction with interstellar gas differential cross-sections also present nuclear interest for the study of interaction mechanisms

Abstract (French)

La section efficace differentielle de production d'ions de charge 2 et 3 dans les collisions α + α a 218 MeV a ete mesuree en utilisant le faisceau de particules α du synchrocyclotron de l'IPN d'Orsay. La valeur de la section efficace totale de production d'ions 23He est egale a 29 +- 4 mb. Cette valeur montre l'importance des collisions α + α dans la propagation du rayonnement cosmique galactique et son interaction avec le gaz interstellaire. Les sections efficaces differentielles presentent en outre un interet nucleaire pour l'etude des mecanismes d'interaction
