The coldest June of the century in Sweden

The peat summer 1991 in Sweden was almost the same as peat summer 1991 in Finland. The total peat production remained clearly below that of the previous year, the sod peat production was only 2/3 of the amount of 1990. The amount of milled peat, however, increased about 7 %. The June 1991 was coldest during this century in Sweden. The total area of fuel peat production fields in Sweden was 6 100 ha, of which 3 200 ha was in sod peat production and 2 900 ha in milled peat production. About 1 850 ha of bogs was prepared for peat production, but was not yet taken into production, and 360 ha was under preparation. The total production of energy peat was 2 606 000 m3, of which 1 493 000 m3 sod peat and 1 113 000 m3 milled peat. The mean production was 430 m3/ha. About 785 000 m3 of horticultural peat was produced in Sweden in 1991, mainly on the Goetaland
