Ion-atom collisions: the symmetric region

  • 1. Oak Ridge National Lab., TN (USA)
  • 2. Texas A and M Univ., College Station (USA)

Description

In the near future the main field of experimental and theoretical investigation of ion-atom collisions will be that of the symmetric region instead of the asymmetric region discussed and measured in detail in the last decade. The new theoretical and experimental problems concerning symmetric ion-atom collisions are reviewed. The possible role of multi-electron and multi-ionization effects is discussed. The necessary modifications of computer codes modelling ion-atom collisions are briefly summarized. Preliminary experimental results and their theoretical interpretation are given. (D.Gy.)
