Deformation record and revised tectonic evolution of the Nizke Tatry Mts. between the Tatric and Veporic units along the Certovica Fault (Western Carpathians)

The Nizke Tatry Mts. are a mountain range in the Central part of the Western Carpathians. The studied area is located at the contact of the western Dumbierske Tatry Mts. and the eastern Kralovohorske Tatry Mts. Two types of crystalline basements come into contact here, namely the Tatric and the Veporic tectonic Units. Their contact occurs along the Certovica shear zone. The structure of crystalline basements was created by multi-stage deformation. Based on the structural analysis, it is possible to distinguish at least two orogenetic cycles and deformation events - older Varicsan and younger Alpine. The older group of deformations D^V, which were accompanied by the Variscan higher-grade metamorphism, is characterised by penetrative tectonic foliations such as schistosity and gneissic foliation that are closely connected with folds and lineations. The younger group of deformations D^A is featured by deformation structures of low-grade metamorphism, phyllitic foliations, S-C fabric and cataclasis. (authors)
