Origin of superconductivity suppression in (Er1-xPrx)Ba2Cu4O8 studied by x-ray absorption spectroscopy

Description

In this paper we report our measurements of Er and Pr L3, edges in Er1-xPrxBa2Cu4O8, O ≤ x ≤ 0.6. The normalized L3 edge intensity in these compounds is seen to closely follow the behaviour of Tc with Pr concentration in these compounds. This can be related to the fact that there is a reduction of mobile carries with increasing Pr-doping level. This picture lends support to a recent model proposed by Lichenstein and Mazin according to which the holes are localized in band which crosses the Fermi level along with a hybridized state of 4f2L and 4f1 at Pr site where L is ligand hole.
