Description
In this paper the effects of Sb addition on the formation of superconducting phases in the Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system are investigated. Samples with a nominal composition of Bi1.6Pb0.32Sb0.08Sr2Ca2Cu2.8Oy sintered at 1133 K for 60 h in air exhibit a sharp superconductivity transition with an onset temperature of 113 K and a zero resistivity temperature of 106 K. It is suggested that coexistence of Pb and Sb during the sintering process causes a partially-melted state which appears at about 1113 K, and that it may significantly enhance the growth of the high-TC 2223 phase in Bi-based superconducting copper oxides
