Phyllosilicates in hydrothermally altered dolerite sills

Description
The nature of phyllosilicate alteration products and the resulting implications to the fields of pedogenesis and engineering are reported. Hydrothermal alteration of dolerite sills led to the formation of fine-grained aggregates composed of two or three members of the following clay mineral groups: smectite, corrensite and chlorite. Samples were analysed by means of X-ray diffraction, and optical microscope studies were also undertaken. 30 refs., 8 figs., 2 tabs
