Pulsed laser generation of intense atomic cluster beams

  • 1. Ecole Polytechnique Federale, Lausanne (Switzerland)

Description

Pulsed laser vaporization sources (PLVS) are widely used to produce atomic and cluster beams. We describe an improved PLVS for production of intense, stable and cold beams of neutral and ionized atoms and clusters. The very low temperatures attainable in the beam makes the particles suitable for Stern-Gerlach deflection experiments and photoionization spectroscopy. (Author)
