Electricity and hydrogen
Description
Hydrogen is an energy vector as well as a mean to store electricity, but, in order to develop these applications, there must be a sufficient potential of such applications, and production and usage costs must allow this energy to be competitive with respect to other energies. After a review of these potential uses, notably in the transport sector, this report assesses the cost of hydrogen production by hydrolysis (the only process which complies with objectives of CO2 emission reduction). This assessment notably takes the variation of wind energy into consideration. It appears that hydrogen is a poor mean of electricity storage. As energy vector, it could replace natural gas but global efficiencies are still to low for now
