Status of collision-pumped x-ray lasers

Description
Collision-pumped soft X-ray lasers, based on transitions found in neon-like and nickel-like ions, continue to provide the highest gain-length products achievable with terawatt class optical lasers providing the necessary primary pump power. Recent efforts to improve the production efficiency of such systems and to characterize and manipulate their optical properties are described
