Description
Predictive models are needed in PR in many applications. In the IAEA 2014 BSS, it is stated that risks due to ionizing radiation, members of the public and the environment must be assessed. In addition, it must be demonstrated, not assumed, that the environment is protected. For this reason, the IAEA and the EU have taken a series of actions to meet these objectives. Thus, the IAEA is reviewing SRS19, which now includes a volume for the protection of biota, and is developing a series of technical guides in this regard (DS 427, DS 442, DS 432). For its part, the EU has worked on the radiological protection of biota in various projects: ERICA, PROTECT, FUTURAE, STAR or COMET. One of the aspects addressed has been to combine the prospective evaluations of the impacts of radiation on humans and biota in a single code. Admitting that the dispersion models of the SRS 19 guide are valid for evaluations of humans and biota, it was decided to advance in the creation of the CROM 8 code (ftp://ftp.ciemat.es/pub/CROM). This code allows modeling, from the discharges made from a radioactive or nuclear facility, the radioactive concentrations in the environment and with these calculating the effective and absorbed doses to humans and biota. At the same time a more flexible parallel development called Open-Platform-CROM (OP-CROM) began. As a proof of concept, the graphical user interface CROMERICA (http://cromerica.ciemat.es) was developed. These codes are presented in this work.
