Resonant inverse photoemission involving transition-metal 3p-3d subshell interactions

Description

Inverse photoemission intensity variations for the Sc 3d empty states are studied for incident electron energies of 20.25 to 46.25 eV to examine interference effects related to 3p core-level excitation. A strong resonance, delayed ∼14 eV above the 3p threshold, is observed, together with an interference minimum 5--6 eV above threshold. The results reflect coupling between the inverse photoemission continuum and the Sc 3p-3d giant dipole resonant recombination channel. Angle-resolved measurements reveal photon emission dependences related to the surface dielectric response in the low-energy region
