Description

The paper generalises the results of investigation into the kinetics of metallic molybdenum reaction with nitrogen dioxide in the temperature range of 573-973 K, where molybdenum trioxide is a stable product of molybdenum oxidation. The possible variations in the composition of the molybdenum oxidation solid phase products are monitored by an X-ray analysis. The change of oxidation mechanism at the temperature of 609 K is found to be associated with the specific features of the structure of the oxide layer being formed, the density of which depends on the temperature of MoO3 formation. The kinetic characteristics of molybdenum oxidation in the Mo(s) - NO2(gas) system have been calculated, as well as the decrease in the value of the seeming activation energy of macroprocess in comparison with oxidation of molybdenum by oxygen
