Performance of a time-variant filter in the presence of dominant 1/f noise
Description
The performance of a gated integrator filter has been compared to that of a typical pseudo-Gaussian filter for the case of high resolution Si(Li) detector-opto feedback FET system. It has been found that the theoretically predicted better filtering of the former for series and 1/f noise is borne out in practice and that the effect can be as significant as a 15 eV reduction out of 90 eV (fwhm) at long time constants.
