Description

Galaxies with high surface brightness identified as a class by Arakelian are studied. The distribution of the linear diameter and the absolute magnitudes are given. The Arakelian galaxies are characterized by relatively small sizes and statistically higher luminositiy as compared with Seyfert galaxies. The increased luminosity is probably due to the higher rates of star formation. It is shown that about 10 solar gas masses are transformed yearly into massive hot stars. The dust temperature of the galaxies is higher tham that of the cyruses in normal S-galaxies and is close to 40-50 K. 4 figs., 10 refs
