Doses from clearance of ITER decommissioning waste

Description

A study has been made on doses from clearance of ITER waste following release limits in IAEA TECDOC 855 and also less restrictive limits in IAEA Safety Series No 115. The study was focused on investigation of the possibilities to release the ITER decommissioning waste from regulatory control complying with the individual dose equivalent rate 10 μSv per annum and the collective dose equivalent rate 1 man Sv per annum. Results from the study indicate that application of unconditional clearance levels in IAEA TECDOC 855 give maximum individual doses near the target value, while the use of IAEA Safety Series No 115 exemption levels give maximal individual doses exceeding the target value in some of the exposure scenarios studied.
