Timescale of possible episodic behavior in mass loss from cool stars

Creators

Description

Recent high resolution spectroscopic studies of CO line profiles in the Δv=1 and Δv=2 bands reveal discrete absorption with well defined velocity components. Separate regimes are further distinguished by different rotational temperatures. Possible, though not unique, interpretations require episodic mass ejection, or intermittent modulation of continuous mass loss. (Auth.)
