Universe in the balance

Description

Experimental cosmology is reviewed, with emphasis on the amount of matter in the Universe and the nature of that matter. The 'big bang' and 'inflationary' theories are outlined, as well as recent attempts to measure the distribution of matter in the Universe. The mystery of the dark matter in the Universe is discussed with respect to hypothesised particles of dark matter and the detection of such particles. (UK)
