Description

The Nuclear Fuels Corporation of South Africa, or Nufcor, is the South African gold and uranium mining industry's company responsible for the production of uranium ore concentrates and the marketing of uranium oxide, U3O8. The Corporation had its origins in the early 1950s when the first quantity of U3O8 from a South African gold mine was produced and sold. Nufcor has two functions: to operate a central process plant in which the entire output of uranium produced by South African gold mining industry is converted to U3O8, and to be responsible for the negotiation and management, on behalf of its shareholders, of uranium supply contracts with customers throughout the non-Communist world. Nufcor is a private company with membership consisting of the mining companies which are actual or potential producers of uranium
