On the importance of the SU(3) description for the interpretation of the first excited Kπ=0+ band in deformed nuclei

Description

The decay properties of the lowest Kπ=0+ band in the SU(3) dynamical limit of the interacting boson model exhibit properties which are not compatible with the classical picture of a β-vibration. Induced by this doubt, recent experimental work on 168Er and 164Dy shows that the lowest Kπ=0+ band can be indeed of various origins in different nuclei. (author)
