Description
The sorption of the trace elements Zn, Cd, Hg and Pb on finely powdered quartz, feldspar, kaolinite and montmorillonite and on the suspended matter in Rhine water without and with addition of humic acid and of nitrilotriacetic acid as complexing agents is investigated as function of time. The results show that the sorption on the clay minerals is of greatest importance and that the sorption on the suspended matter in the Rhine river can be explained largely on the basis of the sorption equilibria on the inorganic components of the suspended matter and the complexation with humic acid and nitrilotriacetic acid, respectively. This complexation often leads to an appreciable mobilization of heavy elements. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die Sorption der Spurenelemente Zn, Cd, Hg und Pb an Quarzmehl, gemahlenem Feldspat, Kaolinit und Montmorillonit sowie an den Schwebstoffen in Rheinwasser wird ohne und mit Zusatz von Huminsaeure und Nitrilotriessigsaeure als Komplexbildner als Funktion der Zeit untersucht. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Sorption an den Tonmineralen weitaus die wichtigste Rolle spielt und dass die Sorption an den Schwebstoffen des Rheins weitgehend aufgrund der Sorptionsgleichgewichte an den anorganischen Bestandteilen der Schwebstoffe und der Komplexbildung mit Huminsaeure bzw. Nitrilotriessigsaeure beschrieben werden kann. Diese Komplexbildung fuehrt oft zu einer erheblichen Mobilisierung der Schwermetalle. (orig.)Additional details
