What does b decay tell us about CP violation

Description

The standard six-quark model of CP violation is in good phenomenological standing with regard to the observed pattern of CP violation in the neutral kaon system and with the experimental upper limit on the electric dipole moment of the neutron. In this work, B0 - antiB0 mixing and CP violation are studied in the standard model, and strong evidence against the observability of CP violation is presented. If a total charge asymmetry among primary leptons coming from B, antiB decay in e+e- annihilation at the UPSILON''' is observed in excess of 1/2%, the KM model as the primary source of CP violation in B decay is ruled out. This unequivocal statement about the standard model can be contrasted against other models, such as CP violating Higgs exchange or even the addition of a fourth quark doublet, where it is argued that such small values for CP violating observables are not expected
