Physical conditions in H II galaxies

Description

The temperature of the ionizing radiation T(ion) and the mean nebular ionization parameters U-bar were measured for a sample of 45 H II galaxies with estimated oxygen abundances in the range log O/H = -4.9 to -3.6. A simple, Stromgren sphere model is shown to fit very well all but three of the objects. The sensitivity of emission-line strength to T(ion) and U-bar is illustrated for several familiar forbidden-line ratios. 38 references
