Blanket for thermonuclear reactor
Description
A blanket comprises an titanium alloy layer (6% Al-4%V-Ti) connected to a cooling layer made of a stainless steel and having water cooling holes by way of an intermediate stainless steel layer. The titanium alloy layer and the intermediate stainless steel layer are entirely press-bonded by explosion welding. The cooling layer is formed by rectangular stainless tubes. Preferably, it is formed by combining stainless steel plates to each of the upper and the lower surfaces of the joined rectangular tubes. Carbon composite tiles are attached on the surface of the titanium alloy layer of the blanket main body by titanium alloy bolts. The carbon composite tiles are prepared by forming boron carbide (B4C) on the surface of a main body made of carbon. With such a constitution, there can be obtained reactor walls capable of sufficiently coping with an international thermonuclear experimental reactor which will be built by ITER. (I.N.)
