LANSCE-II
Description
A first generation pulsed spallation neutron source exists at Los Alamos, and is presently in a commissioning phase. When operating at design specifications, this source, the Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center, will be the most intense (per burst) spallation neutron source in existence. They are investigating the possibility of incorporating a second-generation spallation neutron source into the Los Alamos Advanced Hadron Facility proposal. This next generation facility would be designed as a world class cold neutron source. They are also attempting to combine this cold neutron facility with a neutrino source for a multi-use target station. A cursory look at the feasibility of the neutron/neutrino target area is encouraging. They have sufficient latitude in possible approaches that it will take most of a year to delineate a design for an in-depth study
