New threshold and the UA4 experiment

Description
We derive a general bound of the total cross sections for both pp and panti p at a given high energy for a large class of the threshold models constrained only by the recent UA4 measurement of panti p scattering. In particular, we find 66.61 mb ≤ σtot(√s=900 GeV) ≤ 79.41 mb and 75.51 mb ≤ σtot(√s=1.8 TeV) ≤ 127.08 mb independently of the values of the threshold parameters. (orig.)
