Studies on toxic metals - arsenic, cadmium and mercury in Indian tobacco by neutron activation [Paper No. RA-21]

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Air Monitoring Section

Description

Toxic metals-arsenic, cadmium and mercury were analysed in cigarette and chewing tobacco by neutron activation method. It was found that purely instrumental technique of measurement was not sensitive enough. Hence sequential radiochemical separation based on the anion exchange method was used. The determinations of these metals are important for the assessment of the hazard of tobacco use. (author)
