Description
During the first phase of the CAPRA Project Studies, the feasibility of a Plutonium burning Fast Reactor was addressed. From an economic point of view the necessity to improve the cycle management was highlighted. One possible option to achieve this is a core with increased fuel residence time and hence a high fuel burn-up. The evaluation of this 3600 MW(th) core was carried out covering a number of different aspects; fuel behaviour, fuel management, physics and safety. The feasibility of this core was investigated and is described in this paper. This work has been sponsored by the CEA and BNFL PLC. (author)
