Magnetic monopoles from Stanford to MACRO
Creators
- 1. Virginia Polytechnic Inst. and State Univ., Blacksburg (USA). Dept. of Physics
Description
The existence of magnetic monopoles would have important consequences for our ideas in particle physics and cosmology. The Stanford event, the one serious monopole candidate, has lost its enthusiasts with time as no similar event has been seen. Here the current experimental situation is reviewed and several promising initiatives are discussed. One of the most ambitious of these, the Monopole, Astrophysics, and Cosmic Ray Observatory (MACRO), is described. (Auth.)
