Session 106A - Roundtable: The IAEA Special Session: Site Remediation - Turning Liabilities Into Assets (R1.26)
Creators
- 1. IAEA, Austria (International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA))
- 2. Orano France (France)
Description
This session focused on concrete experiences within the mining sector and beyond where remediation of affected sites went beyond harm reduction and created opportunities for implementation of different economic activities, in other words, turning liabilities to assets. Such experiences can be relevant to unlock one of the most critical barriers to implementation of remediation in those countries that have limited resources to cope with the costs of environmental remediation programs. Panelists with presentations: IAEA Initiatives to Promote Circularity in Remediation and NORM Management (Horst Monken Fernandes, IAEA (Austria)) Using Biodiversity to Turn Liabilities into Assets? (Catherine Mercat, Orano (France))
