An overview of the Collider Dipole Magnet Program

  • 1. Space Magnetics, San Diego, CA (United States)

Description

Open-quotes World Classclose quotes design, engineering, and planning have resulted in successful execution of each phase of the Collider Dipole Magnet (CDM) Program. To date, every key milestone and objective have been achieved. In partnership with the SSCL, the General Dynamics team, stationed at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, built seven industry demonstration magnets. These magnets were built on schedule and successfully performed all objectives in the Accelerator System String Test (ASST) which was conducted in July of 1992. Prototype magnet production was started on schedule in October of 1992 and is well underway at General Dynamics' Hammond, Louisiana facility. This paper describes the key elements of this successful program and details the activities completed to date
